Spoken Word Midwest features Lou Ann Homan, Jim May & Ruelaine Stokes

RIVER FOREST IL - Music & Potlucks, a 501(c)(3) community organization will present“ poken Word Midwest" on Wednesday, May 18 at 7:00 pm CDT. The live stream event features spoken word performances by Lou Ann Homan from Angola IN, storyteller, teacher and author Jim May from Woodstock IL and writer, teacher and poet Ruelaine Stokes from Lansing MI.

For over 30 years Lou Ann Homan (www.louannhoman.com) is a storyteller, actress and writer. She has twice received the prestigious Lilly Teacher Creativity Award and is currently a professor at Trine University in Angola. Lou Ann is also an-award winning columnist for KPC Media Group. Her column has appeared every Saturday morning for twelve years in newspapers across northern Indiana.

Jim May (www.jimmaystoryteller.com) has been a professional storyteller for over twenty-five years and has shared his vast repertoire of tales across the United States, Canada and Europe for audiences of all ages. He has an Emmy Award to his credit and is author of the critically-acclaimed Farm On Nippersink Creek and the children’s picture book, The Boo Baby Meets the Ghost of Mable’s Gable.

Performance artist and educator Ruelaine Stokes (www.ruelainestokes.com) new collection of poetry, Jar of Plenty reads like a novel. It is part memoir, part family history and part portrait of the artist through time’s turns. Stokes is the current President of the Lansing MI Poetry Club and has organized poetry performances, readings, workshops and other events in the Mid-Michigan region.

“We’re so fortunate to have these three masters of their art come together for our May Acoustic Neighbors event,” said Music & Potlucks director Stephanie Schrodt. "The spoken word is an essential art form. Poetry and stories are the very heart of language, music and humanity.”
