Music and Pot Lucks launches acoustic event August 7

The Old Town School of Folk Music returns to the Oak Park area on Saturday, September 30 for classes and a house concert in support of the Songs for Peace and Justice Fund.

The fund sponsors music programs at area agencies including the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, Oak Park Senior Services, the Children’s Museum and Housing Forward.

Folktober Fest features Old Town School of Folk Music teaching artists Peggy Browning, Maura Lally, Mark Mitchell, Jason McInnes and Mark Dvorak, presenting an integrated instruction program and an evening house concert.

“Music is the medicine our spirits need right now,” said Elizabeth Sweeney Backes, president of the board of the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, and co-chair of Music and Potlucks. “This is our second event and our goal is to use music, singing together and learning together as a positive, community-building tool. We want to create opportunities for our neighbors to connect, while at the same time raise critical dollars for our local support agencies.”
