Songwriter and folk artist Dvorak returns to Two Way Street Coffee House June 28
DOWNERS GROVE IL - The Two Way Street Coffee House, 1047 Curtiss welcomes back singer songwriter and folk artist Mark Dvorak to its Friday concert stage on June 28 at 8:00 pm.
Dvorak first appeared at the Two Way Street in June of 1982. “It was the first audition I ever passed,” said the singer. “I didn’t find out until later that almost anyone who was interested in performing was given a date.”
Since 1970 the Two Way Street has presented folk, acoustic and spoken word performances in the small basement room in the First Congregational Church of Downers Grove. Two years ago Joel Simpson and Jennifer Ashley of Downers Grove, took over as co-directors of the Coffee House.
“I’ve known Mark since I was about eight years-old,” said Simpson. “He’s been on the road for a lot of years and is an integral member of the Two Way Street community.”
Dvorak is celebrating the launch of his 20th recorded release, Live & Alone, recorded during the great pandemic in an empty concert hall and the publication of 31 Winters: Finding the Folk Way, a collection of essays and stories reflecting on his long journey through teaching and music.
“At this stage of the game,” said the Dvorak from his home outside Chicago, Illinois, “I feel like I’m doing my best work.”
The Chicago Tribune has called Dvorak “masterful,” and the Fox Valley Folk Festival describes him as “a living archive of song and style.” Dvorak has won awards for journalism and children’s music, and was honored in 2013 with the FARM Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International.
In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2012 Rich Warren, long time host of The Midnight Special radio program named Dvorak “Chicago’s official troubadour.”
