Sunday Matinee @ Friendly

Folk singer songwriter Mark Dvorak performs in Berwyn December 29

BERWYN IL - The Friendly Music Community, 6732 Roosevelt Road, welcomes folk singer songwriter Mark Dvorak to the Sunday Matinee Series on December 29 at 3:00 pm.

“Mark is a very special artist,” said Rob Pierce who has operated the Friendly Tap since 2007. Since then he has opened the Friendly Coffee Lounge, the Friendly Music School and added the multi-use Community Room earlier this year.

“We’re in the business of attraction,” said Pierce in a recent interview. “Our goal is to create space where people of all ages can gather for music, for lessons or for a cup of coffee. Mark does incredible work in the community and his mission and ours, are pretty much in alignment.”

“At this stage of the game,” said the singer, “I feel like I’m doing my best work.”

Dvorak recently rolled out CD release Live & Alone, recorded in an empty concert hall during the height of the pandemic lock down. His fourth book of essays, 31 Winters, which reflects on his long journey through music and teaching was also released to glowing reviews earlier this year.

The Chicago Tribune has called Dvorak “masterful,” and the Fox Valley Folk Festival describes him as “a living archive of song and style.” Dvorak has won awards for journalism and children’s music, and was honored in 2013 with the FARM Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International. In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2012 Rich Warren, long timehost of The Midnight Special radio program named Dvorak “Chicago’s official troubadour.”

There is no cover charge but a  free will donation, $5 - $20, is suggested. For more information on inscape phone 708.484.9794 or visit friendlymusic.community.
