Folk Lantern Bearer to appear in concert on November 22
FT. ATKINSON WI - Cafe Carpe, 18 S. Water Street, Ft. Atkinson, presents a special evening of folk and original song featuring the FARM Lantern Bearer Award winner Mark Dvorak, along with legendary Wisconsin songwriter Larry Penn, and Milwaukee's folk rocker John Sieger on Friday, November 22 at 8:00 pm.
Dvorak was honored with the FARM Lantern Bearer recognition by Folk Alliance International at their annual conference October 24 in St. Louis. The Lantern Bearer Award is given to an individual who has contributed locally and regionally to folk performance arts and the folk and dance community for twenty-five years or more. Dvorak, who is artist-in-residence at Chicago's venerable Old Town School of Folk Music, has been touring nationally the last two years, performing material from the acclaimed "Time Ain't Got Nothin' On Me," his fourth CD on the Waterbug label.
Penn, who hails from Milwaukee has written hundreds of songs in his long career. Among his best known songs are "I'm a Little Cookie" and "On My Grandma's Patchwork Quilt." He has also recorded a number of CDs about railroading and labor history.
Joining Penn and Dvorak on stage will be MIlwaukee's John Sieger. John Sieger performs with The Subcontinentals and has recently written songs documenting the political struggles taking place in his native Wisconsin.
