WDVX features Chicago folk singer-songwriter Mark Dvorak


KNOXVILLE TN - The Blue Plate Special welcomes Chicago’s “official troubadour” Mark Dvorak to WDVX on Saturday, June 16 at 12:00 pm. The live broadcast takes place in  the newly remodeled Knoxville Visitors Center, 201 S. Gay Street.

Dvorak has performed in thirty-eight states and in parts of Europe and Canada. He has won awards for journalism and children’s music. In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and the Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International in 2013. In 2012, WFMT 98.7 fm Fine Arts Radio named Dvorak Chicago’s “official troubadour.” 

“He’s the real deal,” said Bau Graves, Executive Director of the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, where Dvorak has been on faculty for thirty years. ”Mark has made music his life and livelihood. His performances are elegant, rich and powerful. He is one of the Old Town School’s Distinguished Teaching Artists.”

The Blue Plate Special is a live performance radio show hosted by Knoxville’s Red Hickey, and takes place before a live audience. Previous performing artists include Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, The Avett Brothers, Old Crow Medicine show, Ricky Skaggs, Marty Stuart, Mary Gauthier and many others.

The Blue Plate Special is supported by Visit Knoxville, First Tennessee Bank, Sugarlands Distributing Company, Old City Wine Bar and Downtown Knoxville. Admission to the broadcast is free and those attending are welcome to bring a lunch.
