Music & Potlucks announces 3rd Folktober Fest for October 6 & 7

OAK PARK IL - Music & Potlucks, a community organization will present the third annual pop-up music event Folktober Fest on Sunday, October 6 and Monday October 7.

The event will take place at two locations. Sunday, October 6 Fitzgerald’s Night Club, 6615 Roosevelt Road, Berwyn, will host Songwriters Three in the Round at 6:15 pm. Michael Peter Smith, Heather Styka and Mark Dvorak headline. 


The afternoon kicks off at 4:00 pm with a free singing and harmony workshop. A light dinner and appetizers will be served at 5:00 pm and a closing acoustic jam and sing along will conclude the evening.

Adult tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door and include food, cash bar, the concert and the jam session. All profits from the event will go to Music & Potluck partner agencies Beyond Hunger, Housing Forward and the Oak Park River Forest Community Foundation. Tickets can be ordered online at /

On Monday, October 7 the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Avenue, Oak Park will present a Sing Along Tribute to Pete Seeger with Mark Dvorak and the Power of Song Singers. This is a free, all-ages show and the public is invited.

“We came together as an organization in early 2016,” said Stephanie Schrodt of River Forest who is codirector of Music & Potlucks. “Our goal is to present community music and education events that tie into the greater mission of supporting our neighbors in need.”

Music & Potlucks directly supports Housing Forward and Beyond Hunger, formerly the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, where Schrodt is vice-president of the board.

“Stephanie has really taken the Music & Potlucks ball and carried it the last two years,” said Betsy Backes, President of the Board of Beyond Hunger and Music & Potlucks codirector. “Believe it or not there is a huge amount of food insecurity in our community, and Music & Potlucks is our way of carrying that message to the greater community.” 

“Stephanie supplies the vision for our group, and she is also amazingly organized, “ said Liz Ziehl also of River Forest. "She sets the tone and makes it easy for the rest us to pitch in. This will be our twelfth event in a little more than two years. and it’s been fun working together to help others in our community.”

Guests who attend the October 6 and 7 events are encouraged to bring unopened travel-sized toiletries for donation. Helpful items include shampoo, deodorant, travel-sized shaving cream with razor in a sealable plastic bag, tooth brush and toothpaste in a sealable plastic bag, travel-sized foot powder, facial wipes and nail-trimming kits. New pairs of socks are also helpful.
