"We get together about twice a year, and it's a lot of fun." said Jane Sloger of Elk Grove Village, who hosts the event in her home. "My schedule doesn't always allow me to travel to the city to take classes at the Old Town School, so I called Mark and asked if he'd like to come out here and give a banjo class. It's been a lot of fun."

Dvorak, an Old Town School faculty member since 1986 cites Pete Seeger and the late folklorist/performer Fleming Brown of Chicago as two artists who inspired him to begin learning the old-time "clawhammer" style.

"It wasn't until I met a fellow named Don Buedel in 1982 that I was able to pick up on the old-time way of playing," said Dvorak. Don grew up in central Illinois and was quite knowledgeable about the old songs, the old 78 recordings and the old ways of playing the instruments. From there I was able to absorb different styles. I am really looking forward to working with the group in November."

"The Fall Banjo Camp has room for only 5-6 people, and the session unfolds much like one of my classes at the Old Town School," he said.
