“At this stage of the game,” he said, “I feel like I’m doing my best work. I’d love to present a cultural program, coffeehouse show or concert for your community or organization."

The Coffee House presents an evening of Pete Seeger February 23

MILWAUKEE WI - The Coffee House welcomes the 9th annual Community Sing on Saturday, February 23 at 8:00 pm. The event will feature the songs of legendary folk artist, songwriter and activist Pete Seeger led by Mark Dvorak of Chicago, JulieThompson of Milwaukee and Craig Siemsen, also of Milwaukee. The trio will take turns leading the audience through some of Seeger’s best-known songs. 

The Coffee House is located in Plymouth Church UCC, 2717 E. Hampshire Street.

Dominican University hosts potluck, acoustic jam March 16

RIVER FOREST IL - The Dominican University Performing Arts Center and Music & Potlucks will present “Potluck @The Priory” on Saturday, March 16 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Priory Campus Auditorium, 7200 W. Division Street.

The event supports the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, Housing Forward and the Oak Park River Forest Community Foundation.

“This will be our eleventh event,” said Music & Potlucks co-director Stephanie Schrodt. “We want to continue to present programs that gather our community together, and at the same time provide some assistance to our neighbors in need. …

Folk artist Dvorak pays tribute to poet Carl Sandburg in Lisle February 17

LISLE IL - Illinois poet Carl Sandburg published his epic The People,Yes at the height of the Great Depression. Chicago-area folk artist Mark Dvorak didn’t discover the work until the 1990s.

“It’s a sweeping volume,” said the singer, who is working on his own collection of essays and poems. “I carried The People, Yes with me for a couple of years, before the idea came to present a selection of Sandburg’s written pieces with the folk songs from his American Songbag collection.”

The presentation “The People,Yes” takes place on Sunday, February 17 at 2:00 pm at the Lisle Public Library, 777 Front Street. …

Bernard Wenger JCC features Chicago folk artist on February 6

NORTHBROOK IL - The Bernard Wenger JCC welcomes Chicago’s “official troubadour” Mark Dvorak to its program schedule on Wednesday, February 6 at 10:45 am. The Center is located at 300 Revere Drive, Northbrook.

Dvorak will present “The American Folk Song,” a musical exploration into the roots of American music.  Dvorak will perform, examples from African-American and British Isles traditions and songs from American folk artists such as Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. 

Dvorak is an integral member of the faculty at Chicago’s remarkable Old Town School of Folk Music. …
