American Standards for Folk Guitar

CHICAGO IL - In January 2013 Old Town School of Folk Music Artist-in-Resdence Mark Dvorak will offer a new class, "American Standards for Folk Guitar" at the Old Town School in Chicago, IL.

The eight week course will explore the richness of the American songbook. "I've loved these great old songs since I began listening to music," said Dvorak. "And I've been working on some of the arrangements for years. I'm not going by 'The Book,' but rather trying to develop arrangements that sound great on a single acoustic guitar. So I make some compromises with passing chords and keys and so forth. It's all part of the folk process."

"I've always been a melody - harmony guy," said Dvorak. "And we'll cover lots of different kinds of songs; everybody from Fats Waller to George Gershwin to Henry Mancini to Joni Mitchell."

Enrollment for the class is $170. Current Old Town School members receive a ten dollar discount.  Students interested should have some experience with finger picking, written tablature. and an appetite for some chord theory application.
