Folk and Americana music come to River Forest October 21

RIVER FOREST IL - West Suburban Temple Har Zion, 1040 N. Harlem Avenue, welcomes Chicago’s “official troubadour” Mark Dvorak to the Stars in the Sky series for a family concert on Sunday October 21 at 1:30 pm.

When the singer-songwriter began his career in music, he knew right away he was in it for the long haul. Thirty-four years later he is still on the road and recording.

“At this stage of the game,” said Dvorak, “I feel like I’m doing my best work. I’m hoping to get the new CD out this year and I’m very excited about it. I’ve got some new material coming along, and I’m including a bunch of different things I like to do before a live audience.

Dvorak, who is busy at work on his eighteenth CD release is looking forward to working with $11 Supper, the all-woman Americana trio who will open the concert.

“They are a new and vibrant group. We all met at the Old Town School of Folk Music and I’ve watched Amanda, Michelle and Samantha grow as musicians, performers and songwriters.” $11 Supper is Amanda Healan from Nashville TN, Samantha K. Mills from Chicago and Michelle Billingsley, also from Chicago.

“Mark is a Chicago treasure,” said Brad Shorser, director of the Stars in the Sky series. “He brings music into our contemporary world with authenticity, humor, fun and he has a great warm voice. He is a singer, songwriter, musician and teacher - he does it all brilliantly.”

All ages are invited to attend. Dvorak’s first set will be aimed towards young listeners and their families.

Dvorak has performed in thirty-eight states and in parts of Europe and Canada. He has released seventeen albums and has won awards for journalism and children’s music. In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and the Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International in 2013.

Doors open at 1:00 pm. Admission for adults is $20, Kids accompanied by a parent with an adult ticket will be admitted FREE. For ticket information phone 708 366 9000 or visit www.wsthz.org
