Chicago’s “official troubadour” Mark Dvorak, Kaia Fowler at Cafe Carpe February 24
FT. ATKINSON WI - Cafe Carpe, 18 S. Water Street, welcomes Chicago’s “official troubadour” Mark Dvorak and Ft. Atkinson’s own singer songwriter Kaia Fowler for a double-bill on Friday, February 24 at 8:00 pm.
Dvorak has performed in thirty-eight states and in parts of Europe and Canada. He has released seventeen albums and has won awards for journalism and children’s music. In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and the Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International in 2013.
“He’s the real deal,” said Bau Graves, Executive Director of the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, where Dvorak has been on faculty for more than twenty-five years. ”Mark has made music his life and livelihood. His performances are elegant, rich and powerful. He is one of the Old Town School’s Distinguished Teaching Artists.”
“Mark has been on the road for a lot of years it seems,” said Bill Camplin, who owns and operates Cafe Carpe with his wife Kitty. "He’s a favorite in the Midwest and has gained attention across the country. We’re always happy when he can make his way back to us.”
Kaia Fowler is a singer songwriter who lives in Ft. Atkinson and performs regularly at The Carpe. She has performed for over twenty years and was a 2012 finalist in the Great River Folk Festival Songwriting Contest. Her latest CD “All the Way,” was released in 2015.
“Sharing songs helps me connect with others,” said Fowler. “When I sing about my loves and losses, concerns and inspirations, fears and hopes, I know we all share these experiences, each in our own way. Through music we can understand one another better. I love that aspect of what I do most of all.”
General admission seating in Cafe Carpe’s listening room is $10. For more information phone 920 563 9391. Reserve online at http://cafecarpe.com/event/kaia-fowler-mark-dvorak/.
