Folk musician Dvorak returns to Two Way Street Coffee House March 15

DOWNERS GROVE IL - Since 1981 Chicago area singer songwriter Mark Dvorak has been crisscrossing the country and visiting different parts of the world with nothing more than his voice, his songs and a guitar and a banjo. On Friday, March 15 Dvorak returns to the Two Way Street Coffee House for an acoustic performance, the room he first played in 1982.

“The Two Way Street was the first audition I passed,” said the singer who is at work on his eighteenth recorded release. “I got booked right off the open stage and felt a wonderful sense of belonging. Over the years I keep finding myself coming home to the Two Way Street.”

The Two Way Street Coffee House is located in the basement of the First Congregational Church of Downers Grove, 1047 Curtiss Street and has been presenting acoustic music and spoken word performances since 1970.

“At this stage of the game I feel like I’m doing my best work,” said Dvorak. “The Two Way Street has been important. It’s where a lot of us got our start. I’ve played a lot of music in that little room, and have a lot of memories.”

Dvorak has performed in thirty-eight states and in parts of Europe and Canada. He has released seventeen albums and has won awards for journalism and children’s music. In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and the Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International in 2013.

“He’s the real deal,” said James Tomasello of the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, where Dvorak has been on faculty for more than twenty-five years. ”Mark has made music his life and livelihood. His performances are elegant, rich and powerful. He is one of the Old Town School’s Distinguished Teaching Artists.”

Doors open at 7:30 pm. Suggested donation is $10. Coffee, tea, soft drinks and light snacks are available. For more information phone 630 969 9720 or visit the Two Way Street Coffee House home page at www.twowaystreet.org.
